Review of American: The Bill Hicks Story (2010) by Nick C — 22 Oct 2010
This documentary is about a standup comedian who started out as a comic at 15 and who died at the age of 32. He started out as a clean cut comic talking about growing up in the 1970's in a suburb of Houston and evolved into a brilliant political humorist who found an audience who really understood what he was talking about in England.
I thought watching the way he changed over the years was fascinating and I found it very sad that he died so young because he was one of the sane ones who was not afraid to say what he saw and thought which probably kept him from being popular in America.
(His take on the storming of the Branch Dividian compound was right on I thought.) I watched this because I had never heard of him. Five stars.
