Review of American: The Bill Hicks Story (2010) by Adam P — 19 Apr 2011
This movie was absolutely brilliant! First off, I just discovered Bill Hicks like a week ago and I can't believe I've never heard of him before. The guy is a comedic genius who challenges people to think, not unlike Lenny Bruce and George Carlin before him.
So, needless to say, the movie is f'en hilarious but it is so much more than that. The documentary takes you into Bill's early years, his struggle with addiction, and his eventual resurgence as the American comedian who took the UK by storm.
It's a moving, thought provoking, funny, intimate, and ultimately, inspiring portrayal of his life and the mind expanding journeys he went on and you get to go along for the ride.
