American: The Bill Hicks Story is a well made documentary about the life of comedian Bill Hicks. The cut and paste style animation featured using old photographs is splendid. Whilst the film tells the story of a man who died at a very young age, it doesn't do much more than scratch the surface.
The Bill Hicks Story is more of a tribute made by two fans, than a hard hitting documentary about the life of Bill Hicks, perhaps due to the necessary cooperation of the Hicks family. A fine film but not fine enough.
