Review of American Teen (2008) by Steven S — 22 Aug 2008
American Teen is an intriguing look at the high school experience that brought up memories from my senior year. It's a film that many people can connect with because we all have felt or been one of these individuals at one time or another in our lives.
Nanette Burstein does a good job of making us care about these individuals no matter what happens; for example, Megan may have been a stuck up bitch, but I was glad to see her get into Notre Dame. Ironically, the only character that didn't really catch my attention was Jake.
I think we were suppose to sympathize with him the most, but it seemed like half the time he didn't try to make the relationships work. Plus, some of the things he said were downright stupid. Otherwise, American Teen was an interesting look at the most pivotal point in a teen's life.
There's a little bit of something for everyone in this film.
