Review of American Teen (2008) by Manny C — 13 Jan 2009
It's no surprise that the movie poster for American Teen-Nanette Burstein's doc centered five high school students in Warsaw, Ind. for ten months-recreated the poster for the modern classic The Breakfast Club.
Each of the kids fulfills the classic high school stereotypes. There's the cheerleader, the jock, the artsy chick, the geek and the heartthrob. At first the kids can barely connect with the audience, a consequence of brain-numbing social websites and 'The Hills', but Burstein filmed them for ten months, so the real drama was bound to happen.
And when it does, it paints quite a portrait. Just wish a little diversity could have been thrown in.
