Review of American Teen (2008) by Aaron E — 14 Mar 2010
Despite the obvious staging/scripting of some of the scenes, there are moments that highlight the high school experience of the five seniors. While Hannah Bailey is the standout star, Megan definitely reminds me of some of high school aged kids who take pranks too far... Her vandalism and messages were over the top, sure and probably overdramatized, but experiencing similar attacks in high school, her bullying shows off there.
Jake was the most unbelievable character - a geek who wants a girlfriend so bad and gets three in the same year? That's not believable. In many ways, he was the guy I was closely aligned wih in high school. However, it also showcases how some high school experiences are universal.
See it for Bailey, however.
