Review of American Teen (2008) by Matt C — 14 Dec 2008

I've been looking forward to this film for almost a year now - it was a smashing success at Sundance, and I've heard great things from blogs and reviewers - and it did not disappoint.

There are several great storylines in the film, and Burstein juggles them well with some great editing and an eye for detail.

These are real teens with real problems, and it's amazing to see how similar these kids lives are to many teens'. It's also maddening to see how closed-off the world of high school is, and how much the kids take everything to heart. You just want to tell them that everything will be okay, and that high school is not the end. It's the beginning. Luckily, most do realize this and there are some happy endings.
