Review of American Splendor (2003) by Laura R — 12 Jan 2008
I didn't know what to expect going in, but I ended up really liking this film. The cuts of the real Harvey Pekar narrating his own story is pretty great, too. It's interesting to see his real life wife and best friend, and how they compare to the actors portraying them.
I also enjoyed the retirement finale. Some of it is kind of depressing, but a lot of it is genuinely funny...kind of like life, which is what Pekar was famous for writing about.
