Review of American Splendor (2003) by Patrick D — 17 Aug 2008
This was actually my second Paul Giamatti film in one weekend, but that was unintentional. At any rate, this film was one of the best I've seen in a long time. Cool mix of types of film and even film angles.
It was sweet and funny, but very truthful. I love stories with underdog characters, so if you're like me, you will like this film. The only thing that would have made this a higher rating for me was if (a) the film didn't drag in some of the documentary parts and (b) the ending was not as rushed; I would have liked to have seen more of the story instead of it just ending after he got over cancer.
Oh, but PS, this movie made me really interested in checking out American Splendor comics!
