Review of American Splendor (2003) by Jordan T — 26 Mar 2009
Probably the most original biopic I have ever and will ever see, telling the strange but true story of Harvey Pekar, the writer of a comic book series called American Splendor. The comics chronicles Pekar's own life, from hospital file clerk to regular on Letterman, to his fight with cancer.
The movie incorporates real footage of Pekar, but strangely this works very well with the movie's premise, which let's us know that we are always watching a movie and fits with Pekar's twisted sense of reality.
Audacious, refreshing, and strikingly excellent.
