Review of American Splendor (2003) by Dave A — 15 Jun 2009
If you loved Transformers or Wedding Crashers, then you should find another movie review. American Splendor is so far removed from being the kind of family friendly blockbuster one would expect. Based on comic book writer Harvey Pekar's autobiographical comics of the same name, American Splendor follows Pekar's unhappy exploits as a hospital clerk with a dead end job and another divorce when he decides to do something with his life and write comics.
But not ones featuring Wolverine or Batman but autobiographical slices of life about Pekar's adventures in Cleveland. Inventive drama-comedy segues between Pekar as played by Giamatti and the real Pekar narrating the film.
