Review of American Splendor (2003) by Sven E — 21 Jul 2011
The perfect mix of comic book style and hard reality. I went to grad school in Cleveland and remember Pekar as almost an urban legend. Giamatti Is brilliant as always and Friedlander is almost unrecognizable in the depth of his character portrayal.
For fans of graphic novels, especially if it's the "Bif, Pow, Bam" variety or the newer, chic noir stylings, this is a must see to explore the roots of the comic art culture; when stories were real.
