Review of American Splendor (2003) by Matthew B — 24 Oct 2011
Quirky and delightful. Structurally and stylistically this film is a diamond in the rough. Perhaps Giamatti's best performance as he does not seek to be Harvey Pekar but to represent the important characteristics of who Harvey Pekar was.
It is a movie that celebrates the every man, the seemingly insignificant every day superheroes who embrace conflict in the small and yet unfathomably complex world around them one day at a time.
