Review of American Splendor (2003) by Daryl T — 03 Nov 2012
Superior biopic on the life and work of Ohio cartoonist and noted curmudgeon Harvey Pekar. In theory, a regular guy like Pekar appears too mundane to be a feature subject, but like his autobiographical comics, 'American Splendor' disproves this.
Paul Giamatti gives an Academy Award-worthy performance, and the filmmakers' choice to toss in bits with the real Pekar throughout is particularly inspired.
