Review of American Splendor (2003) by Andrew W — 05 Jul 2009
A fascinating exercise in metafiction, and kudos to Pekar for writing himself with such brutal and nasty honesty. He is no everyman, few humans are as stubbornly miserable, or express their disaffection so fluently.
But as an ordinary man undergoing an ordinary transformation, he is compellingly archetypal.
