Review of American Sniper (2014) by Debbie I — 10 Sep 2015
Film is incredibly well-made, yet it takes a shameful turn from the book by portraying the protagonist by a guilt-ridden family man. A jingoistic fluff of a war movie, even compared to Lone Survivor. I lost count of how many times the terms "savages" or "real evil" was spoken by the military men in this movie. It was incredibly one-sided and manipulative.
Despite the excellent job by the crew and the good acting by Cooper and Miller, my rating could be lower. However, it receives its 3.0 due to the superb technicality, which should be honored. And to its credit, even though it does this by manipulative language and disturbing images, the film does have some powerful moments. Viewers who are more enthusiastic regarding Kyle's legacy will love this.
