Review of American Reunion (2012) by Mariel C — 02 Jun 2013
This is a series that spawned a couple legitimate sequels and an incredible amount of illegitimate, crappy, straight to DVD spinoffs. The first one literally defined a generation. American Reunion follows the class of '99 as they all meet up for their high school reunion.
Now, despite the huge lapse in time and it's absence from pop culture, the gang hasn't changed a bit and the funny is still there. Believe it or not, there are some legitimately hilarious laughs and some truly touching moments.
The acting is pretty solid, and the primary cast slides right back into their perfect groove. The writing is solid and there are some legitinate character developments. The film fumbles a bit in the middle, but that's expected in a comedy series, especially one this old.
Some characters are here in cameo form, but one of the primary members of the gang gets the short stick. Overall, this was more fun than I thought it'd be. It was funny, it was sweet, and it wrapped up the class of '99 in a perfect little bow and sent them on their way.
