Review of American Reunion (2012) by Matt L — 02 Oct 2012
The plots have become so predictable from one generational forward-step to the next, that the movies almost become spoofs of those generational genres. The first movie was a genuine high school hit because it was so brazenly honest about teenagers' sexual explorations.
The second was inevitable because of the general promiscuity of the college experience. American Wedding felt forced and weakly relied on the same things that got the first two through successfully. Unfortunately, what works for teenagers does not necessarily work for adults - even if the teen and the adult are the same person.
American Reunion is more nostalgic for the 30-somethings that remembered the first instalment. The jokes are tired and forgettable. This should DEFINITELY be where the series ends. 3 Stars = a nostalgic 30-something.
