Review of American Psycho (2000) by Hieu N — 04 Oct 2013
A film that had potential, almost reached a level of excellency, but somewhere along the way came up lacking, American Psycho is a roller-coaster of opinion. The film essentially sums up with a "this entire experience has been pointless" feel, which is frustrating.
The last fifteen minutes are pure gold, with Bale providing a stunning performance. However, before this the film wavers between difficult to follow and repetitively violent. I believe the quality would have been improved had the writers chosen to focus on one theme in particular instead of wavering between the notion of the struggle for sanity, the "is-this-the-real-life" effect, and basic horror film gore.
Personally, I believe the film would have been more successful following through with the deprecation of sanity vein. In all, an interesting film at least with some impressive acting on the part of Bale.
