Mary Harron and co have done a stellar job in bringing Pat Bateman and his crazy world to life. Given the potential to go for the full on gore / violence option, the decision to focus on the absurdity of Bateman as an individual was a great one.

The film does a great job of depicting the 80's (costumes, hair etc are spot on) and the obsession with materialism and money is captured really well. Up front Bale takes Bateman and presents him as a real dork who genuinely believes that he is cool. He is hilarious in this and when the time comes for the darker aspects of his character to come to the fore, the change in his demeanor and presence is quite striking. He is excellent here. The supporting cast are pretty great too, with Josh Lucas and Justin Theroux in particular taking their parts as Bateman's buddies and ripping these guys to shreds.

Overall, this is a solid adaptation delivered by a great cast.
