Review of American Psycho (2000) by Phillip J — 02 Apr 2013
Dude, seriously... almost nothing better, especially in terms of horror/thriller suspense. Hands down Christian Bale's best performance ever. I've read the book, and it's amazing how well they nailed it.
I feel like they picked exactly the correct scenes from the book (written and directed in the film marvelously I might add) to make a movie out of. Rather than turning this into an stupid NC-17 gore fest as the book becomes at points (which isn't a problem, but it would just be stupid and pointless if put on film), the film focuses on the quirky yet maniacal nature of Patrick Bateman, and relies on the notion that "what you don't see is worse than what you do see.
" And it works so well, helped along by Bale's amazing acting. He makes the whole thing so god damn quotable with his delivery of almost every line, which turns Bateman into such a humorous character, because we truly understand how freaking nuts he is.
I can't recommend this film enough.
