Review of American Psycho (2000) by Jerome P — 19 Dec 2013
Kudos to the director for making it look like it was pulled straight out of the 80's. Pace, angles, costumes, hair/MU, art direction......everything fits. Immeditately after watching I was 50/50 on it, but it stayed with me a day later.
I still don't find it to be as great as other's. Bale's Bateman is rather one-dimensional, and often I found his acting to be stolen from from Jim Carrey in The Cable Guy. I have no issue with inspiration, but some scenes failed.
There's no delving into what makes for Bateman's psychosis. He's just crazy, so end of story. I doubt they were trying to create an iconic movie narcissist, but they definitely succeeded in doing so.
