Review of American Psycho (2000) by Jack B — 12 Feb 2014
American Psycho is a great film until it's horrible ending. I don't mind sad movie ending but I do hate confusing ones. I don't want Bateman not to be a murderer, I actually think the movie would be a lot better if Bateman is one but the dang ending is just horrible.
While the film tries to show how greedy people are and how they don't care about they're supposed friends, the ending just makes everyone care about whether or not Bateman is a serial killer and if everything was just in his imagination.
The clues point completely toward him not being one but even so Bateman absolutely learns nothing during the movie, he even says so himself. Now I will admit Christian Bale was absolutely amazing and he really sells the whole psychopath thing really well.
Patrick Bateman really became the first "cool" serial killer in movies who is cool and funny even when he is not throwing chainsaws at people. Definitely see this movie for Bale's epic performance but be prepared for a crappy ending.
