Review of American Psycho (2000) by John O — 13 Apr 2013
Brilliant work from Christian Bale, perhaps the greatest performance of his career. His character is dirsturbing and psychotic, but at the same time, hysterically humorous and interesting. American Psycho is a brilliant movie, and it did the controversial novel justice when it was released in 1999.
It has a great cast, features strong performances and very unique elements and artstic visuals. It was set in the 80's, and the 80's lifestyle was superbly portayed. The films central plot is about Bateman (Bale), who is a spoilt and rich snob working in his Fathers firm.
He lives a secret life where he tortures, murders and torments women, aswell as some of his working associates with no motive whatsoever. He is a big fan of classy restaurants, fashion, facial products, music and pop culture.
The movie will somewhat leave you cofused and dazed, but at the same time, demands the maximum amount of your attention.
