Review of American Psycho (2000) by Anh H — 14 Nov 2013
First of all, thanks for the nightmares. My mind is literally still processing what I've just watched. And I really like the way it makes me think and question myself, struggle to understand what is real and what's not.
This is supposed to be a horror movie, but it's the high level of irony and comedy that actually the force making it so good. Definitely not that type of movie for people who take things too seriously.
If you apply logic and motives to watch this movie then you will never get the true meaning of it. It's not about the killing, it's about a society of people who don't care about anything but themselves.
What they have seems so glamorous - trendy restaurants, fancy clothes, pretentious politics talks, etc. But at the same time, all is empty. No one knows anyone's names anymore. They're all clones of something belongs to capitalism.
A guy's been dead for weeks, and someone still claimed to have dinner with him just the other day. That's why Patrick's ending monologue make sense. His confession meant nothing because he will never get caught.
Despite the fact that he craves to be punished for what he's done, nobody would ever believe him. They would never believe that a man, in his class, is a sociopath. And there we have it, a tragedy in a dark and satire comedy.
