Review of American Pop (1981) by Holland K — 14 Jan 2011
A bit too ambitious, American Pop was one of those films that had some great moments, but as a whole doesn't feel like it works.
I will say that this was the first film I've seen in its entirety by Ralph Bakshi. I've seen bits of Fritz the Cat and some of the other films he's done, and after seeing this, I must say, he was a fantastic animator that deserves all of the acclaim he's received.
I do feel that this film gets something specific right. The dichotomy between the events of the world and how we just ignore them while we have fun/listen to music.
