Review of American Pop (1981) by Sean D — 23 Nov 2015
American Pop was a fun cartoon film that had pretty much no plot and can be considered a animated historic period musical drama film. That's what I would define the genre as. It's very interesting and fun to watch the evolution of a poor child from Russia who came to America and got involved with music and you get to see his the timeline of his family up till his great grandson. There's heavy drug use in this film, especially towards the end, but it's needed for the basis of the plot.
There's a lot of downfall and uprise, the family had it hard both based on society and their drug use getting the best of them. There's a lot of skipping around of events in the plot but there's no going back and forth in time. The film is a little bit violent. But in general, this was a pretty awesome film that takes an animated adaption on history with fictional characters for the most part. There was an actually animated Jimi Hendrix and he related to the plot and was actually mentioned.
