Review of American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009) by Andruw F — 11 Feb 2018
One of the better made movies of the franchise. (At least the spinoffs, especially!) But not as well made as The Naked Mile (or maybe as well made, not sure.) Aside from that, maybe some decent performances, direction, and pacing, there's really not much else to like.
This and Band Camp, are the weakest spinoffs. Band Camp is funny, but not well made, or as well acted, as this! It's closer to the main franchise, but not as good of a story or characters, or motivations, or just overall caring that much about the movie.
This is definitely the worst, but not because it wasn't trying. Also, this Stifler is a disgrace to the movies, and the Stifler name. The actor is terrible, he doesn't look like he'd be a Stifler! His performance is terrible (as a Stifler, but as a performance, it's not that bad awful!) The character is bad, is barely in the movie, and has no laughs, but barely even any funny scenes, that were trying to be funny, but weren't funny! This is all around just a bad movie, and probably a lot of the reason why, is that it's very similar to the first American Pie movie! Also, the dream sequences suck, mostly because that's basically the only time that they show nudity, which is stupid, because if you have seen the other spinoffs, then you know that that's a huge part of them, and maybe probably why people like them! Also, I like Beth Behrs in it, but I just really like her as an actress! It was what got her started as an actress, and that's great, and just about the only reason I think that it's fine that this was made! (Plus, for her first performance, she's phenomenal! Even not for a first performance, it's pretty good! A lot of the reason it's not perfect, though, is because she didn't have much to work with in the writing, and not very well good direction!).
