Review of American Pie (1999) by Jeremy B — 17 Nov 2012
This isn't really going to be a review as much as it is going to be an embarrassing story-telling for me: This movie came out around the time I hit puberty...enough said, I remember this movie having a huge effect on my development in that area.
HA. I wasn't actually old enough to see it when it came out being that it was rated R and I was only 13 years old, but a buddy of mine and I were able to get around that pretty easily -- of course we ended up buying tickets for a different movie and then sneaking into see this one; how else would you have done it? :-O Besides, we wanted to see what all the hype was about.
..Oh Shannon Elizabeth, how perfect it was for you to be the first woman besides my mother I would see naked...LOL. Believe it or not American Pie (and I really only mean this movie; I was thoroughly disappointed with the rest of the series being that they essentially tried to replicate the same basic plot line in each of those movies) definitely broadened my horizons, and taught me more about sexuality and high school antics than any of my "Birds and the Bees" classes I went to when I was a kid.
All I can wonder now, though, is how in the hell an idea like this was even thought up...who was like "I want to make a really funny but crude movie about high school kids who act like they're in college, who drink and party, and ejaculate into cups of beer that someone'll accidentally drink -- oh! and I want to put a really hot chick up on the screen naked, just because we can do that and it would make random 13 year old boys across the United States very, very happy to the point where they sneak into movie theaters in order to see it"? How did that conversation actually go?
