Review of American Pie (1999) by Felipe C — 29 Dec 2013
Like homemade apple pie... warm, sweet, fun and unapologetic (pie is fattening and high in sugar. It's not sorry about it). The film was like apple pie all kidding aside. It is a coming of age story that even reaches out to teenage demographic and even older people (that sounds creepy but it does).
What I love about this movie was that it wasn't forced and was honest upon this very sensitive subject. A lot of movies that try to emulate this is forced with sex jokes and really dull characters that are stupid.
This film had cheesy characters but we can all feel for those characters and even to an extent be embarrassed by them. Hell, we become fond of them and support them on their lusting but honest quest throughout the film.
They were not over raunchy douchebags and even the ones that were, we love them. There's a scene which made this film iconic where our main hero just full out blows his opportunity to fulfill his quest twice and we just feel for him because we wanted him to go all the way.
It's those moments that made the film hilarious and even surprisingly memorable. I love this film and recommend it to a more mature audience and teenagers. This movie is about sex but it does make a valid point of life.
