Review of American Ninja (1985) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013

Is this movie stupid as all hell? Yes. But is it entertaining? Yes, it is.

There is so much awful about this movie, that after awhile you just can't help but join in with the so awesome it's good vibe it has going.

From the crazy awful score, to the odd sword sound effects, to the ninja laser, to the awful acting, the horrible editing, the lead being shot at hundreds of times...sometimes only a foot away...and never getting a scratch...

It'll have you shaking you head, but laughing at the same time. The final ten minutes is so crazy bad, it's almost genius. Be on the lookout for two men getting shot in the back and how over the top their fall to the ground is as they die. I mean, they both basically jump and throw their arms into the sky as they fall. It's quite something to see. Or when one of the villains' truck hits a tiny tree and explodes on impact. Yeah right.

Or in the middle of a chase scene, the lead and his mentor meet up and literally take a time out to have tea and remember old times??? WTF??

It did have Judie Aronson looking hot as all hell, so there's that.

But man was this some awful film making. One of those it's so bad, it's kind of good...
