Review of American Ninja (1985) by Jason J — 04 Aug 2010
What an extremely cheesy 80's action movie. An American soldier who's been taught the martial art of Jujitsu takes on a man and his ninja goons who are stealing weapons from an army base in the Philippines.
This movie is definitely in the category of 'so bad it's good'. Poor acting, ridiculous plot and badly choreographed action sequences. Michael Dudikoff as the lead actor is just so wooden and his expression never changes during the course of this movie.
Terrible. The action scenes are simply ludicrous, with staggeringly inept bad guys. The film even attempts to incorporate a few plot twists in the 2nd half â?? with certain "good" characters turning out to be allied with the bad guys â?? but these twists are both heavy-handed and unsurprising.
On the whole, American Ninja is thoroughly low-grade trash with nothing to recommend it. Unfortunately it did quite well which lead to 3 more sequels.
