Review of American Movie (1999) by Nikolai E — 06 Feb 2008
Many film students have told me they found this film inspiring. In me, however, it instilled the most basic and abject terror, that unquenchable fear of the unknown and unknowable THING that waits in the darkness of some primordial jungle, its ghost forever etched on our collective genetic memory by lethal claws and hungry teeth, passed father to son through ten million years of blood and pain and murder.
I have seen this film, dear friends. I have looked into the pit. I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker, and I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, and in short, I was afraid.
But wow, you couldn't write dialogue funnier than this if you tried.
