Review of American Movie (1999) by John C — 29 Mar 2009
The best film I've seen in years. The dialogue between friends Mark and Mike is at times superior to the script of Spinal Tap. With such determination to get his strange short movie finished (Coven, pronounced Cooven so it doesn't rhyme with "oven") even Mark's affectations are endearing (such as his habit of using cinema jargon to impress his 5-year old child).
The director shows great comic timing, letting the information slip out at exactly the right time for a laugh.
