Review of American Movie (1999) by Dylan N — 22 Jul 2009
What a great documentary. At first glance, it looks a little like a rural exploitation movie, where filmmakers go film some people in the sticks and then laugh at them while eating popcorn at art house theaters near Harvard Yard, but no .
.. They have found someone pretty special in Mark Borchardt. He's pretty crazy, but pretty inspiring too, and complicated. And I think that is proof in the pudding that the filmmakers did more than just compile a kind of redneck blooper reel for the benefit of their fans.
I think they actually cared for this guy, and I did too.
