Review of American Movie (1999) by Reginald J — 30 Sep 2009
With all the current tech advances making an amateur filmmaker's goal of achieving The Dream, if not more readily accessible, then at least cheaper in the attempt than years ago (amazingly, we're only talking a little more than a decade ago), the film comes across rather dated and no longer relevant.
That said, it's still entertaining, though a bit sad. You may find yourself laughing, but feeling rather sorry for the players onscreen while you do so. Still, it's perfect 101 viewing for aspiring filmmakers for its stark reality and sobering (pun intended) perspective.
