Review of American Me (1992) by Chris M — 21 Mar 2008
Edward James Olmos leads a pretty unknown cast (apart from William Forsythe) in this gangster film which is based on a true story. It tells the story of 30 years of the Mexican mafia which is also called La EME. Its quite a hard film to watch, especially the gang rape scene in prison in which an Italian guy gets a knife shoved up his backside!
I think you definately need to have an interest in this genre to watch this film, but all in all it was definately worth a watch, for me I think William Forsythe stood out, i'd never heard of Edward James Olmos before this film but he did a pretty good job, also look out for Pepe Serna who played Angel Fernandez in 'Scarface'. 3/5.
