The ageless Tom Cruise does Tom Cruise. And he's really good at it. He dominates the movie totally. He plays Barry Seal as a maverick who lives on the seat of his pants but is a lovable rogue. In reality Seal was an irredeemable drug running low life scumbag.
The rest feels familiar with TV shows like Narcos covering similar ground. It splices real life footage with fictional characters and tries to explain the stupidity of US foreign policy. But we know all that already and this pastiche while entertaining isn't ground breaking at all.
It will be forgotten quickly. I'm giving an 8 especially for the good ending, lots and lots of excellent aircraft scenes and to acknowledge the two stunt men who died making this movie.
