Review of American Hustle (2013) by Dave H — 13 May 2015
Takes a while to take hold, and ends up being a little long. Too shouty, but not as bad as much David O Russell flicks. Intriguing story, but less about the cleverness of the con, more about the idiosyncratic nature of his leads.
Definitely an actors' film, and every single actor delivers, espec. J-Law, who owns her part - and the film whenever she's on. She gets the best lines - but there is exquisite dialogue dropping in every scene.
Smart and hilarious throughout. The combover, perm and bouffant sported by the three male leads are almost as unforgettable as the plunging 70s necklines sported by the ladies. Almost....
