Review of American Hustle (2013) by Mloy X — 17 Sep 2015
Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale): When you are offered a favor or money, take the favor, not the money. Jesus.
Said that, didn't he?
Great ensemble, even Jeremy Renner, whom I am not a fan of, performed each of their parts beautifully. The story was pretty interesting as well and it was kind of refreshing watching a film where there was no clear (stereo typical) hero. Each character was flawed and all of them were pretty despicable but somehow, as an audience member, you still kind of root for them to "succeed". Overall, a fairly decent film with a great cast of talented actors-- especially Christian Bale who practically disappeared into his role as business/com-man, Irving Rosenfeld so convincingly that you almost forget he's playing a part and start to actually see him as that person. Super talented and adorable, even as aesthetically unappealing as Irving looked, there was something charming about him and you can believe why a bombshell like Amy Adam's Sydney Prosser or Jennifer Lawrence's Rosalyn Rosenfeld would fall for a guy like him. Bradley Cooper, as handsome as he was, I actually watch because he played a pretty convincing Richie DiMaso as well-- good looks and acting chops to boot! So good acting, cool story and overall a satisfying ending.
