Review of American Honey (2016) by Jeff H — 19 Jun 2017
American Honey brings a new light into the millennials' world of survival. The cinematography and writing exceeded my expectations, but there is a repetitive moment and 2 hours and 40 minutes is asking a lot for a road trip film. I don't know if the creators deliberately made the group to look and work like a cult and make metaphors around it, but if it was then I love how they made the world beautiful around them so we can loom through the recruits' eyes. The cinematography makes the film look like a beautiful Home Video. I've never taken Shia LaBeouf's acting seriously until I saw his performance as Jay. This is probably even his best role. I also felt that an aspect of the ending was kinda rushed and not well explained. A24 still has delivered, once again, a great film.
8.5/10.
