Review of American Honey (2016) by John G — 07 Jul 2017
Another iconic film from A24. Coming from a 20 year old, this movie really captures the tastes of young people in the American south and Midwest. Shia Leboeuf plays a bizarre supporting lead that's absolutely perfect for him. Sasha Lane delivered a sometimes-frustrating but nonetheless excellent performance. The film is slow with a very loose structure that feels natural as one event just kinda goes to the next. There are also a lot of scenes where they're just riding in the van, needless to say it can be a little boring but immersive, you feel like you're on a road trip more than any road trip movie I've seen.
Most importantly though American Honey has iconic moments. Scenes that just stick with you, things that are memorabile. I have a feeling the next generations will remember American Honey.
