Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Ben H — 20 Feb 2007
Enjoyable documentary tracing a genre of music lost amidst the 80s more synthesised excesses, Harcore Punk. Passionate interviews with some of the key players are mixed with some incredible archive footage of the chaotic and sometimes violent gigs (walking a thin line between concert and all-out riot).
Movie is let down by a slightly aimless structure that doesn't give any real sense of chronology of the scene, and some major omissions that let down it's attempt to be comprehensive - How the hell do Dead Kennedys only deserve one passing mention at the beginning?? Still entertaining stuff for those interested in edgy music and you will come away thinking Bad Brains are one of the most incredible things you've ever seen.
