Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Nathan S — 26 Jun 2007
I like that this documentary is as flagrantly uncommercial as its subject matter--basically all the performance footage given is that from cheap camcorders with terrible sound, and little attempt is made to try to pretty it up.
I also liked how it covered a lot of the lesser known bands like SS Decontrol and T.S.O.L rather than spending all of its time on Black Flag and Minor Threat. My only complaint is that the movie seems to have a faint whiff of nostalgia about it, which given their shared hatred for Ronald "morning in America" Reagan seems a bit wonky.
However, it's a fitting tribute to some very beautiful music. Wish they'd talked about Fear though.
