Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Misha D — 04 Aug 2007
I loved the book American Hardcore and I actually really liked this as well, though it basically is a shortened book version. I don't know how other people who claim to be fans of punk can completely hate this when they actually interview the bands themselves, especially since the people during that time have now gotten older and can look back on it with less of that teenage know-it-all attitude while still telling it how they saw it at the time.
For the kid who reviewed it as "they interviewed mostly shitheads" I ask exactly what punk bands you listen to because these guys are huge influences on many bands after them (good and bad).
Not to say I agree with everything they did or that occured in the emerging hardcore music scene, but its a good look into their perspective with the social historical influences briefly mentioned that shaped it for what it became.
Basically, to make something out of almost nothing basically deserves applause from me, especially being a fan of what hardcore was back then and how it has influenced some of the bands I really respect today (few but great).
