Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Michelle J — 04 Sep 2007
Really intersting documentary about the rise of the hardcore punk scene int he late 70's early 80's. Although it was kind of wierd to see the great heros of punk 30 years later talking about fucking mainstream society while sitting next to their pools and dressed up in suits.
I guess punk really is dead. Nevertheless it was a well done documentary focusing on the DIY aspect which was a big part in defining the scene and defines so many of the great bands that exist today. Lots of interesting stories about the local scenes and the footage is fun to watch.
Still the doc doesn't feel whole without the mention of groups like the Misfits, Dead Kennedys, and Jello Biafra.
