Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Chris B — 05 Apr 2008
Interesting documentary about the birth of Hardcore punk in the US, to its death in 1984/85. The film focuses mainly on the LA and New York scenes (and makes no mention of the Dead Kennedy's?) and talks primarily with members of Black Flag, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains.
I love the music, and the footage of gigs is terrific... but the film as a documentary is sort of scattered and doesn't tie the two scenes together very well. It is also interesting to note how many of the original hardcore punks now have cats.
