Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Sarah S — 21 Feb 2007
This was fantastic to watch especially for the lovers of true punk rock. You here all these people talking about how much they love punk rock. Punk rock is pretty much dead and you see the end of true punk rock in this movie.
A lot of the bands that we know and love today stemmed off of Hardcore Punk Rock, the same Hardcore Punk that you see in this movie. If it wasn't for the bands that you see in this movie you wouldn't have Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many other bands known today.
You also have this pop-punk or whatever nowadays. It's just bands that wish they could be as punk as these guys. I also learned something in watching this movie. Henry Rollins was the lead singer for Black Flag? I had no idea, but damn it makes me like him even more than I already did.
He's freakin kick ass. This movie is kick ass. This music had so much angst and the violence at the concerts was unreal. I can see why these guys wanted to quit after a few years. It shows scenes from one concert when Henry Rollins is on stage and there's a fan in the crowd throwing punches at him.
Then he starts punching the shit out of the fan. It was so fucking hardcore. Everything about this movie was just hardcore. I would have loved to have grown up in the early 80's so I could have lived the crap that they did.
It would have been OARZOME!! If you are a music lover you need to watch this so you can see what real music is all about. Real love for music. These guys knew they weren't going to get any radio play or sell many records.
They just did it for fun and to let out their anger through music. This is what being a musician is all about. Not having a care about money makes a real musician because they do it for the love of music.
