Review of American Hardcore (2006) by Jd T — 09 Jan 2008
This could have been titled "Everything You Wanted To Know About Punk Rock But Were Too Scared To Ask." This was a fantasic collection of vintage footage of some of the most important bands in the punk genre.
Giving major props to the Bad Brains and Black Flag, this film shows how the scene grew from coast to coast here in the ol' U.S. Included are interviews with those that were there and are still here.
However, the footage was unbelievable. If you've ever dared to join the fans of punk rock near the front of the stage, you may imagine how difficult it would be to be holding any kind of camera. After that, you would have had to store that footage somewhere that the elements couldn't destroy it entirely.
That must have been incredibly difficult. Suddenly, a director, Paul Rachman, had to pull all this stuff together and make a movie out of it. This task plus the film itself deserves more recognition and praise.
This is why I give it five stars. Don't be scared. Rent it and then try not to destroy your living room while you watch.
