Review of American Graffiti (1973) by Corey N — 15 Jun 2009
"Rome wasn't Burned in one night". American Graffiti is one of the best films on teenage life ever filmed. It wasn't even my generation but the themes expressed are so Universal, any one that has lived in America can identify with it.
Even Jon Singleton who directed Boyz N the Hood has cited AG as an influence on his landmark first feature! I saw this film on video just before entering my last year of high school and was totally floored - it spelled out everything I was feeling and fearing in less than two hours.
It's a perfect film, every bit as powerful and ambitious as Lucas follow-up film - Star Wars.
